The Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS) Language School (Sawtelle Gakuin) is hosting a Fund-Raising Raffle to improve our school program. We are asking for your help selling the raffle tickets. Information regarding the raffle and ticket sales is here >>

Place: JIS Auditorium
Small sizes will sell for $3.00 each, large for $5.00 each. This is one of our fundraising events. Proceeds will be used for administration of the school.

Time: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Place: JIS Auditorium
Each class will perform with dancing, singing or skits during the festival.
Gift Exchange: Secret Santa
The festival will include a gift exchange between students. Each student will draw the name of a classmate and bring a gift for him or her. Cost of gift should not exceed $15.00. No food please!
Please bring the gifts (~$15.00) to your student’s teacher by December 8th with name tags attached. Place the name tag on the gift indicating who the gift is for and their class. For example: To Dear Eliza (Visco Sensei’s Class).
The festival will include lunch after class performances. Details will be provided soon.
Sawtelle Gakuin is hosting an opportunity drawing to raise funds for school administration and school events. Three main prizes will be awarded:
One 1st place prize: $500.00 cash
One 2nd place prize: $100.00 cash
Thirty 3rd place prizes: 30 items donated by parents and local businesses
Note: these prizes have been donated by Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS) community members for the sole benefit of Sawtelle Gakuin and its student programs.
Tickets cost $2.00 each and winners need not be present to receive their first or second place prizes. However, third place prize winners need to be present. The drawing will be conducted at the conclusion of the festival. Members of the Gakuin community will receive ticket sales information and the selling process in a separate notification soon.
We are proud to announce that we are sending JIS students (from 9th to 12th grades) to Miyoshi High School in Hiroshima, Japan.
Date: Leaving LA on July 2nd and returning to LA on July 15th, 2019.
Cost: $3,000.00 (includes all expenses, flight, meals, excursion, and etc.)
Application deadline: Nov. 10th, 2018.

The sale was a great success. We netted $855.70; money that will be used for administration and student programs. The faculty and staff want to express their appreciation and thanks for the donations provided by members of the Gakuin community and for the help of volunteers who setup the kiosks, sold items and cleaned up afterwards. Thanks again for your generosity and hard work!

Students celebrated Halloween the same day as the fundraising sale. Many students wore costumes and looked great!
